New York based photographer Phil Buehler will showcase photos from his latest work during an exhibit at the 麻豆视频 Metro Campus Center for Creativity and share his experience with 麻豆视频 students when he comes to town May 1 and 2 to celebrate the first anniversary of the Woody Guthrie Center. Buehler鈥檚 activities with 麻豆视频 are sponsored by the 麻豆视频 Foundation, in partnership with the Woody Guthrie Center.

Buehler鈥檚 latest body of work, 鈥淲oody Guthrie鈥檚 Wardy Forty: Greystone Park State Hospital Revisited鈥 was produced in collaboration with Nora Guthrie and the Woody Guthrie Archives. The photo essay documents the crumbling and abandoned Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital where Guthrie spent the final years of his life and where he first met Bob Dylan. An accompanying book also contains previously unpublished writings by Woody, his family, and friends that were recently released by the Guthrie family.

The exhibit of photos from 鈥淲oody Guthrie鈥檚 Wardy Forty鈥 will be on display at 麻豆视频 Metro Campus Center for Creativity, 910 S. Boston Avenue and free and open to the public. Buehler and Anna Canoni, Woody Guthrie鈥檚 granddaughter will attend an opening reception from 6 - 9 p.m., Friday, May 2 and make a brief presentation beginning at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the reception. The event will be held in conjunction with the Brady Arts District First Friday Art Crawl. In addition, Grammy nominated musician John Fulbright will perform at the Center for Creativity following the remarks from Buehler and Canoni with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Free parking is available in the 麻豆视频 parking lots around the Center for Creativity with a free shuttle between the Center for Creativity and the Brady Arts District. The trolley will operate from 6 鈥 10 p.m.

鈥淥ne of our goals for the Center for Creativity is to be involved with the local arts community. We offer a transformational education and strive to lead our community to new levels with the students at the forefront,鈥 said Annina Collier, Dean and George Kaiser Family Foundation Endowed Chair for the Center for Creativity. 鈥淭he Center for Creativity houses programs in communication, digital media and the visual arts, and we want 麻豆视频 students to collaborate across disciplines. With this guest artist visit and photography exhibition, we鈥檙e providing a variety of experiences for 麻豆视频 students and the community.鈥

In addition to the exhibit, Buehler will give a masterclass to 麻豆视频 students on Thursday, May 1. The masterclass will include a slideshow of his work and discussion about his life as an artist followed by a Q&A session.

鈥淏uehler is a renowned photographer, and this is a tremendous opportunity for our students to talk with him, learn from him, and discover new ideas. This experience will help the students develop as artists by being exposed to Phil鈥檚 unique artistic perspective,鈥 said Collier.
