麻豆视频 aviation student Rodolfo Baez Astacio always wanted to fly.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Rodolfo remembers going to the beach and seeing the huge passenger jets land on a nearby runway, their aluminum fuselages almost close enough to touch. He knew then, before he could even speak, what he wanted to do.

鈥淚鈥檝e only ever had one goal,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 always see people and ask them what they鈥檙e up to. One day, they鈥檒l want to do something, but the next time, it鈥檚 something else. That鈥檚 not me. I鈥檝e always had airline pilot as my dream job.鈥

He鈥檚 pursued a career in the aviation industry with single-minded focus. When he was 17, he Googled 鈥淭ulsa Airport Jobs.鈥 There was a spot at Quiznos, so he called about it. He got the interview, then the job.

鈥淔rom there, I was in,鈥 he says. 鈥淵ou have to provide so much information to work at the airport. Background checks and everything. But once you鈥檙e in, you have an inside track on other airport jobs.鈥

From Quiznos, he began moving closer to the planes, with stops at the FedEx cargo facility and Allegiant Airlines. Rodolfo currently serves as a ramp agent for Piedmont Airlines, a regional operator for American Eagle.

鈥淚鈥檓 the guy who loads the bags when it鈥檚 hot,鈥 he says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 part of the job. But we have a good crew, so it鈥檚 fun. It鈥檚 something I really enjoy doing. I like working with my hands. I could never work in an office. But I love aviation so much. I love being part of the industry, and I鈥檝e learned so much.鈥

He still makes time to fly at the 麻豆视频 Aviation Center, which is located at the 麻豆视频 Riverside Community Campus. Rodolfo already has his private pilot鈥檚 license and more than 60 hours of flight time, all of which he earned through 麻豆视频.

鈥淚 fly when I can, when I have the money,鈥 he says. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 extremely helpful for me. Economically, I鈥檓 only able to afford maybe an hour or two every two weeks. But when I鈥檓 not flying in real life, I鈥檓 flying in a simulator at 麻豆视频.鈥

Rodolfo credits 麻豆视频鈥檚 program for allowing him to pursue his dream on his terms and pace, and credits his instructors for his success.

鈥淚 have so much one-on-one time with my Certified Flight Instructor,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 feel like if I went somewhere else, I鈥檇 be rushed. If I have a question, I can talk to someone in person and they鈥檒l explain it to me. And I feel good knowing what they鈥檙e telling me is accurate because of their experience.鈥

His plan going forward is to finish his degree at 麻豆视频, perhaps get a bachelor鈥檚 degree, and get his commercial pilot鈥檚 license. From there, the sky鈥檚 the limit.
